CONCEPT: Lightning Farm
|
Positioned around the complex beside or between almost every energy source are large poles. These are a concept idea for a possible future lightning farm.
Currently the technology for harnessing lightning simply doesn't exist yet, the energy transfer takes place too rapidly for it to be used in the grid directly and there are currently no capacitors powerful enough to store that electricity and then discharge is slowly. So currently, lightning is an unfeasible energy source. But with recent advances in technology maybe some day this will become a reality. |
There is a section of the energy research laboratory dedicated to bringing this and the other concepts into reality however impractical it may be at the moment. Our high voltage laboratory has the resources to experiment with simulated lightning strikes in controlled conditions to analyse how they might possibly be harnessed. Of course, even if there were a way to efficiently catch the energy from a lightning strike, the development of this technology as a power source would rely on the presence of the other conceptual idea, the "capacitor room"
